Advancements in medicine have given physicians many different tools to diagnose and treat patients. In the beginning, doctors had to rely on very crude instruments to diagnose illnesses and diseases. There were some refinements that help doctors tremendously. The invention of microscopes helped to see what previously could not be seen, the use of anesthesia provided a way to keep the patient from pain during surgery, and x-rays helped doctors see something they could never have seen before. Further advancements in technology, on the whole, increased the likely hood that a doctor would be more accurate and would provide the right assessment and prognosis for their patients. The trial and error method was finally becoming a thing of the past. And yet, what about the patients? How could they find out what it was that they were afflicted with? They can now turn to a new resource, online medical diagnosis; a very handy, if less than personal, tool now at the disposal of the pat
ient. No longer was all the medical knowledge locked up in the minds of the physicians and professors. Big cumbersome books that were hard to read and understand were translated and condensed into a format that the average person could reasonably understand.

Nowadays a patient can go online and find answers to questions related to their health. They can access a database of knowledge that is vast and comprehensive. Patients can ascertain, by using online medical diagnosis, whether or not a particular pain or discomfort is life threatening or if urgent medical care is required. There is some objectivity necessary, however, the being able to find answers quickly can be life saving.
